What is it?

A charge from you for $4.00 appeared on my Discover Card statement, labeled as recurring, on 10/30/21. I don't remember making any such purchase, unless I read an online article that required payment, but I don't remember that, either.

I recvd the same fraudulent charge on my Visa Credit Card, but for $1.02, and it appears to be coming out every two weeks. I spoke with New York times @800-698-4637, which she stated: "You do not have an account with us". I'm disputing the charges with my credit card company and I had them cancel this account and issue another card. I don't care if its .50cents, give me back my money!

I also got a $4.00 charge on my credit card statement. "Nytimes*Nytimes Disc" on 12/10/2021. Which is odd because I never read the NY Times nor visit their website, plus this is a credit card I never use. So not sure how this charge got on my credit card since I definitely did not approve it.

It's the New York Times subscription. The "disc" means "discounted rate", which is often just $4/month for a year. After one year, you'll be automatically subscribed to the non-discounted rate of $17/month, which is $13/month MORE than the "NYTimes disc" rate.

I had a $6.20 card payment from nytimes disc with this same number. I never use my card never used nytimes. I live in Australia and I went straight to my bank they cancelled my card straight away.

I also got a $4.00 charge on my credit card statement. "NYTimes Disc" on 9/4/2023, which is odd because I never read the NY Times nor visit their website, plus this is a credit card I never use. So not sure how this charge got on my credit card since I definitely did not approve it. I had to report this as fraud, cancel my credit card and have a new one issued.

Similar to the complaints above, I have the same problem. Charges from a vendor identifying themselves as NYTI MES*NYTIMES DISC 800-698 -4637 NY for $4.00 in December, and now $4.08 in January 2024. Working to get the charges reversed and this vendor blocked.

Rats! Saw this same "NY Times" charge ($4.09) on a bank account I use for one purpose. I DO subscribe to the NY Times, but would not have used this account to pay for it... Disputed with my bank first, who advised me to call the number associated with the charge -- bad advice! The person who answered (after long hold) asked for my phone number, address and email, which unfortunately, I gave out. They did "confirm" my NYT subscription info, but...? Then they asked for the card number that was fraudulently charged, which I did NOT give - even though the card has already been cancelled.

If this IS a NYT account, please DO SOMETHING about these scammers

I have a $4.00 charge for a subscription to The NY Times that was not me and no chance it was anyone I know who did this. I also had 4 or 5 small charges on 2 different cards that I rarely use from Walmart in Arkansas. I’m aware scammers (who’s mothers and fathers failed miserably raising their loser children) will charge a small amount to check to see if the card is active and has money in it hoping the small pending charge goes unnoticed before charging as much as possible. The charges to Walmart were for the exact balance in both accounts. Your card information is linked to so many sites you use that you don’t think about like Twitter, FB, YouTube because most are connected through Google where you’ve likely made a purchase somewhere. Go to these sites and check to see which are connected to google or gmail and disable that connection and then change banking passwords and site passwords. It’s just too easy for these filthy pigs to steal from you.

Got a $4.00 charge that's to NYTimes*NYTimes disc. Never signed up. Reporting it as fraud. It's just annoying that they're cancelling and giving me a new card. How can NYTimes charge like that. Don't they need some type of verification?

I also got a $4.00 charge on my credit card statement. "Nytimes*Nytimes Disc" on 12/28/2023. Never used or even go to that place lol Reported it as fraud to get a new card issued.

Still happening May 2024. Two separate pending charges for $4.00. Credit card was blocked in quick time and charges were denied. Still had to get a new card. One source shows the NYTimes charger's related phone number as belonging to a landline of New York Times Coffee Bar and other sources for NYTimes customer service.

Same thing for me. $1.02 charge for the NYTimes*NYTimes disc and over $1000 charges to Walmart. I told 3 reps about it, before one of them did anything about it. They gave me a hard time about it and I spent half an hour on the phone, despite the obvious fraud that was occurring for a card I DO NOT USE ONLINE and was in my possession 100% of the time!

Which bank is this occurring on? This occurred on my Charles Schwab account. Does anyone else think either: A. the bank has been hacked B. The New York Times is fraudulently being supported by these banks?

Been charged twice for $4.08 on NewYork Times Disc on my debit card. Once in Dec and Jan. Showed as recurring also. Never ordered NY Times or read it. NY Times couldn’t help due to no account number. Bank cancelled my card. Not sure who is doing it but an awful lot of complaints about this and NY Times. Not sure if it is NY Times or scammers. Needs to be reported to the FBi.

Not once, but twice has this charge showed up on my new business account even though I was issued two new CC numbers by my bank within 2 months. I called the NYT and they said in order to track down the charges I would need the CC numbers for the cards (which I had already disposed of per instructions from my bank). I asked if this subscription was tied to a phone number and NYT said they are only tied to CC numbers and not phone numbers. I am terrified to activate this new CC and was considering opening an account with a different bank but now I see this is not just my bank's issue. These cards were for a business account that I have not used yet, and I have not saved them anywhere online including Google, PayPal, Venmo, or any other platforms; I had never even used them at a store. Perhaps we are all unlucky here and have been issued the CC numbers that are on the scammer's lists that they run just to see what they can get. Both cards were Visa if that helps anyone else.

We got the same thing... NY TIMES needs to investigate on their own issue. Because someone is getting money here...

I also see a charge of $4 with "NYTimes*NYTimes disc" on my credit card. when Called NYTIMES, they were unable to locate it. Just FYI.I never had any subscription from NYTIMES and this is really weird that they can't pull the record from their payment system? Any step you guys recommend? Closing the card and getting new one seems pain? Is it not?

New York Times Charge for $4.00 on my bank account.

I got the same NYTIMES*NYTIMES DISC charge for 4.07 on my Chase Visa debit card I get immediate alerts for any transactions made on all my cards and I never use my debit for anything clearly was some scam and was wondering if it was linked to Google but based on what you guys are saying it's more like a company hack. I called chase immediately had them stop the transaction and issue me a new card.

Can you help? What is this charge?
